Here is always something to do Here is always something to do
For years I've lived in Ovezande, the village where I settled at the age of twelve and have never left since. I now live here with my wife and children. I work as a project co-ordinator at a national installation company with a branch in the Bevelanden region, but I'm also active as a volunteer and board member for the local festival Klomppop. Musical events play a big part in my life: I organise them, but I also enjoy attending them. That love for activities fits perfectly here in Borsele. It's a region with space and peace, but also with lots of life and energy.
Small village, big village life Small village, big village life
Ovezande is a quiet village, but it's one that's full of life. With a school, pub, snack bar, and sports clubs, the village is well-equipped. There's always a committee or group organising something: a cycling weekend, activities from the pub, and other village initiatives. This involvement and sense of community ensure the village thrives.
At the same time, nature is right around the corner. Ovezande is wonderfully located in the Bevelanden, with cycling and walking routes that take you straight into the flower-covered dykes and open landscape. In the spring, it’s glorious here to get some fresh air, and in the summer, you’re just minutes from the water for a refreshing dip. For me, that combination of cosiness and space truly makes Ovezande my home. It’s the place where my family and friends live, where my history lies, and where I also see my future.
The beating heart The beating heart
De Klomp is the focal point of Ovezande: the hub for the youth club, children's club, and the live music venue. It's a place where generations meet and where much of village life converges. Klomppop, the local festival held annually on the last weekend of May, also originated from De Klomp. I've been involved there as a volunteer for over thirty years.
It's not just the music, but especially the sense of togetherness that makes it so enjoyable for me. With a large group of volunteers, young and old, a festive weekend is created every year that the whole village, and the region, looks forward to. Increasingly, music lovers from outside the region are also finding their way to Ovezande. This creates a great mix of familiar faces and new people. That gives the weekend a special atmosphere.
Borsele lives Borsele lives
Not only in Ovezande, but throughout Borselethere is always something going on. When I have a free weekend myself, I enjoy visiting a local event. From a music festival and bathtub race to a horse event. They attract a diverse audience and give the region its own dynamic. Traditions like carnival also show how vibrant and connected Borsele is. In those moments, you experience the real Borsele: open, hospitable and full of life.
Exploring the region Exploring the region
Anyone exploring the region will discover just how diverse Borsele actually is. There's always something to see on and around the water, from birds to seals unexpectedly popping their heads up. On land, there's plenty to discover too: winding dikes, small villages, and open polders invite you to explore at your own pace. Take a tour of the area and be surprised by the different faces of the region.
This shows that Borsele not only offers peace and quiet but also plenty of opportunities to get out and about. For me, that's precisely the strength of this region: you'll find space to relax here, as well as a region that's always on the move. It's a place where you can easily linger, sometimes for a day and sometimes for your entire life.
