Colijnsplaat is one of those villages where a bike ride just begins naturally. You roll onto the Voorstraat, past historic buildings and facades that are reminders of its maritime past. A little later, you climb up the dike and the view opens up over the Oosterschelde. The light reflects on the water, the wind tugs gently at your jacket, and behind you, open farmland stretches out.
By bike, you'll discover the different facets of Colijnsplaat. In the heart of the village, you'll cycle past terraces and small shops where you can stop for a coffee and a treat. Afterwards, the route will lead you towards the harbour. Old and new fishing boats lie side by side, ropes creak softly against the quay, and seagulls circle above the water. Cycle along the quay, take a seat on a bench, and let your gaze wander over the water and the impressive Zeelandbrug in the distance. Here, the maritime soul of the village is palpable.
In the summer, Colijnsplaat buzzes with life. Terraces fill up, bicycles are parked and on the dike the ever-present Zeeland wind provides a cooling breeze. The combination of sun on the water and the open landscape makes every ride feel light and free. The pace is low and the horizon is high.
Parking is available near the Zeeland Bridge, after which you can easily cycle a loop along farmlands, meadows and dykes. If you cycle further, you will reach the expansive National Park Oosterschelde, where you can see the clear water sparkle. From there, the route will naturally lead you back to the village. A short break in the square or at the harbour and then continue on, back along the coastline.
Cycling in Colijnsplaat means variety: from village cosiness to open space, and from the harbour to views of the Zeeland Bridge. It's a tour with wind, water, history, and where every kilometre invites you to linger a little longer.
