Discovering drowned Nieuwlande Discovering drowned Nieuwlande
Join us on a discovery tour of the last visible traces of the drowned village of Nieuwlande. During this special excursion, an archaeologist from Erfgoed Zeeland will take you onto the mudflats, where, at low tide, remains are still visible of the village that disappeared into the waves during the St. Felix Flood of 1530.
During the National Archaeology Days, you'll walk through a section of the Oosterschelde that is normally inaccessible to the public. Along the way, you'll discover more about the history of this lost settlement and the special place it occupies in the Scheldt Delta. Meet between 12:45 PM and 1:00 PM. Participation is possible after registration.
